本片改编自推理小说家知念实希人的同名小说，背景设定在被铁栅栏封闭的原精神科医院，讲述在监狱里发生了监禁64名身份不明的住院患者和职员的事件，被牵连的速水(坂口饰)在医院内接连遇到不可思议的事情，并试图逃出的故事。。祁砚与许星漾因身份差距不被祁家认可，曾想坚定相守。一场意外打破平静，许星漾为救祁砚母子忍痛拿钱离开，遭其误会成负心女。五年后，她独自抚养儿女，生活安稳，却没想到会再度与朝思暮想的祁砚重逢。。Inspired by W.G. Sebald’s book and based on WWII archive footage, the film puts forward the question: is it morally acceptable to use civilian population as a means of war? Is it possible to justify mass destruction for the sake of higher “moral” ideals?
