土地革命时期，中国共产党领导的农民暴动风起云涌，一支初创以农民为主、成分复杂、良莠不齐的闽西红军队伍——红军独立营应运而生。针对当时革命武装中各种思潮，红四军入闽后在古田召开了中国共产党红四军第九次代表大会(史称古田会议)，会议理清了当时存在于红军队伍中的各种非无产阶级思潮，明确提出了党指挥枪和政治建军的宗旨。红军独立营在古田会议精神指导下进行整训，有效提高了队伍的凝聚力和战斗力，归编红四军第四纵队，参加了反围剿战斗，经受了战火洗礼。1934年10月中央红军被迫撤离苏区开始长征，独立营却奉命留在苏区坚持三年艰苦卓绝的游击战，队伍于三年游击战的绝境之中淬火成钢，铸就了军魂，最终成长为一支听党指挥、信仰坚定、英勇无畏的红色铁军。。Running Time was filmed in black and white, in real time, and seemingly takes place in one continuous, fluid shot.
