Hugo's life is not easy, he is a very lonely boy and his mother is forced to move away from him, but he has the support and protection of a respected old man: Arnau Estanyol.。故事发生在大兴安岭林区。戏剧学院学生林楠到林区采风，伐木工人老倪头接待了她。老倪头是当年数名闯关东的唯一幸存者，解放前由于家乡十年九旱生计无着，他们背井离乡来到关外，每到春闲时节，他们拉帮结伙下山串赌场、逛风月场所，宣泄感情和金钱。小白鞋温柔善良且重病缠身，他看中了时值青年的老倪头，老倪头答应来年为其赎身。不料把头也看中了小白鞋，经常趁老倪头不在时欺负蹂躏他，小白鞋含恨而死。老倪头一怒之下杀了把头，离开了阿尼屯。另一位干粗活的丫头大力神对伐木工小勃带情有独钟，可小勃带瞧不上大力神，他花钱娶了农家姑娘秀女，可万万没想到，秀女被车老板拐跑了……。
