Every year, thousands of high schoolers enter the August Wilson monologue competition for a chance to perform on Broadway. This film follows these students, examining how Wilson and his characters speak to a new generation, inspiring them to listen to his words and find their own voice.。方与雄自小在帮会中长大，与帮会老大鲍之女儿莲感情极好，莲则对方有爱意。鲍因年老多病，欲选方为继承人，但遭方拒绝而起误会，赶方出帮，而后立雄为其继承人，女儿莲也嫁给雄。 雄虽当了老大之位，却因好胜居功，不能服众，又遭日本山口组对付。方退出江湖，与丽结婚，在炮竹厂当工人，过着平淡的生活，但另一帮会的伊欲迫方重出江湖，故杀鲍劫莲，展开连场火并。。一个焦虑的纽约客，在处理个人问题的同时，试图提出日常生活的建议。。
