Richard（莱昂内尔·斯坦德 Lionel Stander 饰）和Albie开着车，Albie的枪走火射中了自己，Richard只能到附近的岛上寻求帮助。岛上住着一对夫妻：George（唐纳德·普利森斯 Donald Pleasence 饰）和Teresa（弗朗索瓦·朵列 Françoise Dorléac 饰）。Teresa淘气爱玩，而George则懦弱无能。两人在Richard的威胁下一起埋葬了死去的Albie，并和Richard一起等待他的老板卡特派来的人来接他。不久，George的老朋友们来岛上看望他，Richard则伪装成他们的园丁。他们和Richard之间的矛盾不断加剧，终于酿成一场血腥惨案...... 本片赢得1966年柏林电影节金熊奖。。影片根据巴金的小说《家》改编，它描写了五四时期四川成都一个封建大家庭的罪恶及腐朽，通过觉新、觉慧、觉民三位主人公的不同命运，控诉了封建制度对生命的摧残，歌颂青年一代的反封建斗争及民主主义的觉醒。。A dentist teams up with a feisty would-be assassin to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife.
