根据章丘作家牛余和小说《姚爷》改编，影片以上世纪30年代中国北方农村为背景，在跌宕起伏的讲述中直抵人性，倾情演绎一段缠绵悱恻而又催人泪下的爱情故事。 盲女乔姐与家中长工的儿子姚哥从小青梅竹马，但父母却把她远嫁到地主尚瞎子家，姚哥历尽艰辛来到尚家找活做，为的是守护心爱的人。阴险的管家一方面想霸占尚家家产，又贪慕乔氏美色，假借尚瞎子之名召集众人揭发乔氏与姚哥私情。在“瞎子大会”上，乔氏与女仆林嫂揭发了管家图谋不轨的劣行，众人乱棍打跑了管家，愧疚中的姚哥自残双目还得乔氏的自由，一对恩爱的盲人相互搀扶着在风雪中蹒跚前行……。The film was written and directed by Stuart Urban, and commissioned to mark the tenth anniversary of the Falklands War. The film was closely based on the historical record, and all of the major incidents portrayed were drawn from contemporary accounts by those who took part. Filming took place on the Falkland Islands and at Ealing Studios.
